Contact Status

Every contact has a status that controls whether they can be emailed. Statuses protect your sender reputation by making sure you only email people who want to hear from you.

Status Receives marketing email? Meaning
Subscribed Yes Confirmed and active. The normal state for an engaged contact.
Pending No Added but not yet confirmed (for example, awaiting double opt-in).
Unsubscribed No Opted out. Excluded from all marketing sends.
Transactional Transactional only Will receive transactional messages but not marketing campaigns.
Bounced No Mail to this address hard-bounced. Automatically suppressed.
Complained No Marked your mail as spam. Automatically suppressed.

Only Subscribed contacts receive marketing campaigns and sequences. Bounced and Complained contacts are suppressed automatically to keep your deliverability healthy.

  • Unsubscribes happen when a contact clicks the unsubscribe link in an email. PrimoCRM sets them to Unsubscribed and excludes them from then on.
  • Bounces and complaints are set automatically when your sending path reports them.
  • Manual changes are available on the contact profile and via bulk actions.
  • Automations can change status with the Change Status action. See Triggers and Actions.
  • Imports set new contacts to Subscribed by default. See Importing Contacts.
  • Campaign audiences always exclude non-mailable statuses, so you never need to filter them out by hand.
  • Automation conditions can branch on status. For example, re-engage contacts whose status is still Pending after a few days. See Conditions and Branching.

Beyond the six built-in statuses, PrimoCRM accepts additional custom status values when your workflow needs them. The six above are always available and are the ones that drive mailability.
